When people hear the words plant medicine, they often think of ayahuasca, psilocybin, or other psychedelics. But there are many ways to work with plants for healing, insight, and spiritual connection.
Aromatic plants offer another path. Through their scent, we can develop a relationship with plants and invite them to support our inner exploration. Paired with guided meditation, breath, and sound, this work can open space for meaningful experiences while allowing us to remain consciously present.
What is a plant journey?
A plant journey is a guided practice of connecting with a plant and listening for what may emerge. In my work, we begin with an intention and approach the plant as a healer, teacher, and guide.
Rather than focusing only on its therapeutic properties, we make space to experience its individual qualities. This may happen through its essential oil, resin, or another aromatic preparation.
As you rest and listen, you might notice sensations, images, memories, emotions, or a shift in perspective. Every journey is different. Sometimes the experience brings clarity to a question; at other times, it offers a deeper sense of connection or simply the space to rest.
How is this different from a psychedelic journey?
Aromatic Medicine Journeys do not involve psychedelics or other intoxicating substances. They offer a way to explore your inner world through scent, sound, and guided meditation while remaining connected to your body and aware of your surroundings.
My own exploration has included psychedelic journeying, but some of my most insightful and profound experiences have come through working with aromatic plants. For those who are curious about a deep plant medicine experience and prefer to remain consciously engaged, this can be a meaningful approach.
There is no single way a journey should feel. What matters is allowing your own experience to unfold with attention and openness.
The role of sound and scent
Scent can draw our attention inward and help us connect with a plant in a personal way. Sound and gentle breathwork support the experience by inviting the mind and body to settle.
As everyday thinking quiets, there may be more room to notice what is present beneath the surface. The plant’s aroma becomes a companion throughout the journey, offering a point of connection as the experience unfolds.
Continuing your relationship with the plant
One of the things I value most about this work is that the relationship with a plant can continue beyond a single journey.
After a private session, you receive an aromatic inhaler of the plant we worked with. You can return to its scent throughout your day, reconnecting with the plant and allowing the insights from your journey to continue unfolding.
