We live in a fast paced, digitally focused world where many of our senses have become dulled or overstimulated. Synthetic fragrance, constant media, and artificial environments can disconnect us from the natural signals that help the body regulate and restore.

By slowing down and reconnecting with the senses through natural, grounded methods, we begin to restore our inner barometer for balance.

In my Aromatic Medicine Healings, scent, sound, touch, sight, and simple rituals such as tea form a quiet framework that allows the body to settle and recalibrate.

Scent

Aromatherapy and 100% natural fragrance are central to The Way Apothecary. Through both our formulations and in person work, we help restore the experience of real fragrance.

Natural aromatic materials do more than simply please the senses. Used intentionally, they can evoke emotion, influence the nervous system, and support states of calm, clarity, or release.

During in person sessions, fragrances are selected based on your needs and often layered through a process known as scentscaping. Rather than relying on a single aroma, different scents are introduced over time, creating a subtle sensory journey.

In all sessions I also employ what is sometimes called the lock and key method. A specific scent is introduced while you are in a deeply relaxed state, creating a scent memory. You then leave with an aromatic inhaler containing that fragrance, allowing you to access that same sense of wellbeing long after our time together.

Sound

Sound has long been used across cultures as a way to guide the body into deeper states of rest and awareness. Rhythm, vibration, and tone can gently shift internal patterns, allowing the mind and body to settle.

Sessions may incorporate frame drum, vocal toning, Native flute, singing bowls, shamanic drumming, chimes, and unique instruments such as the metallaphone and Freenotes Wave.

Drumming plays an important role in my work. Repetitive rhythms can encourage a slowing and synchronizing of brainwave activity, a process often described as brain entrainment. In many traditions, as well as in modern science, these patterns are associated with the meditative, dreamlike states linked to theta brainwave activity.

Frame drum work may also include vocal toning, allowing voice and rhythm to move together in a steady, grounding experience.

Touch

Touch can be one of the most grounding and regulating experiences for the human body. In a world that has become increasingly digital and mechanical, simple human presence can be deeply soothing.

My work is informed by training in Reiki, particularly the perspective of its traditional Japanese lineage, where the emphasis is on simplicity, attentiveness, and presence. Often, less is more.

This approach is also shaped by my background in aromatherapy and an understanding of how the nervous system responds to calm, steady support.

This work may be done hands on or hands off depending on the client’s preferences and comfort level. In either case, the intention is the same, to create a quiet, supportive space where the body can soften and restore.

Sight

The setting itself plays an important role in this work. The studio is nestled in the redwood forest, an environment long associated with calm and restoration.

Research has shown that even viewing natural landscapes can help regulate the nervous system. In contrast to the bright, fast, and often artificial environments many of us spend our days in, this space is intentionally quiet and minimal.

Low lighting, neutral tones, and the surrounding forest create a visually soothing atmosphere where the eyes, and the mind, can begin to rest.

Taste

At the end of each session, we take time to sit together over a custom herbal tea. Drawing on my background and training in herbalism, each blend is thoughtfully designed to support the individual and the work we have done together.

The tea is served in handmade Japanese teaware, where each bowl is itself a small work of art. This quiet moment allows time to reflect on the experience, discuss how you are feeling, and consider simple ways to care for yourself in the days ahead.

If desired, we may also review a gentle practice you can take with you to help support and continue the work beyond the session.
